I have the same problem!! It seems they know about that, and do nothing, just release the windows 10 with this problem!!!

when I play audio or video with Microsoft Edge and minimize it to the taskbar, it stops all media playing
See if it is Battery Saver Settings doing that. You can add Edge to an Always allowed list in there. It looks like by default the list is empty.
Also, instead of "minimizing it to the Taskbar" see if just hiding it on another Desktop or still open behind another window will do what you want. Minimizing sounds pretty severe compared to those options.

Minimizing is NOT severe, its handy to have less clutter, when you minimize the tab playing music or even downloading something, that tab suspends all activity, the same way a phone does this, leaving the window open and not minimized works, but then this thread would not exist as the thread is about minimizing the active tab, also another Desktop is the MOST SEVERE option as your creating another active desktop using up more RAM, besides this option does not work either as when you flick back to Desktop1 the music on desktop 2 stops same as before, Minimizing is the best least severe option but its broken.

There is no option to ADD EDGE to this list, SEE PICS BELOW>
ADD APP?? Edge is not in there.

Hey Guys, I think I figured out how to solve it. In the setting-data security (the last item on the modern setting pane) There is the list of apps which allowed or not allowed to run in the background. Microsoft Edge must to be allowed to run in the background. It solved my problem. This setting is needed to all app what plays media.
